"My paintings never complete the whole story. I want the collector to participate, not just be a passive viewer. For me creating art is a quiet, reflective time, which cultivates an intimacy with the subject." - Dixie Dugan

Dixie was a featured artist in American Arts Magazine, Watercolor 90, and Alternatives Magazine. Dixie's art is owned by both private and corporate collections including the Origami House International in Tokyo, Japan. She refers to her latest technique of cutting or tearing handmade Japanese origami and rice papers and layering the pieces to create the impression of a painting as collage mosaic paper. She has received awards at state, regional and national levels including her most recent first place finish at 2008 Piccolo Spoleto Art Exhibit in Charleston.

She graduated from the University of South Carolina and studied alongside artists including Chen Chi and Gary Faigen. She taught drawing and watercolor for 22 years and she has given lectures to numerous groups including the Georgetown Watercolor Society and the Florence Museum. Dixie is a member of the Southern, Georgia, South Carolina Watercolor Societies and the Watercolor Society of Alabama. Dixie was born in Kansas. She lived in Illinois, Texas and Louisiana before establishing her studio in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she and her family have lived for over forty years.
