"Each piece is a journey to accommodate the poles of my intellectual, experiential and spiritual existence; a gentle and intuitive fusion of my scientific and spiritual identities." -Rachel von Roeschlaub

Rachel's passion for art and science intertwined in 2005 as her whimsical acrylic paintings of biological themes were featured on the covers of leading industry magazines and journals. She was recently commissioned to paint a mural for the entry to the new Harvard University Bio Labs. Rachel has exhibited her paintings at galleries in New York, Boston, Maine, and at the American Association of Arts and Science in Washington, DC. Rachel received an M.S. in organic chemistry from the University of Oregon. She participated in cancer research and managed the genome facility at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. She was asked to travel to India and introduce Tibetan monks, students and teachers to modern biotechnology. The experience led her to found a non-profit organization to fight tuberculosis within that Tibetan community.

Rachel's most recent series of work incorporates fingerprints personally provided by three Nobel prize recipients - Dr. James Watson, Dr. Richard Axel and Dr. Eric Kandel, as well as Chuck Close, David Rockefeller Sr., Mike Mills, Mrs. Kathryn Davis, Charles Butt and Glenn Close. A portrait of the subject is layered over the fingerprint, leaving the viewer with both a biological mark and a more subjective expression of the person within Rachel's characteristically vibrant canvas. The fingerprint series will be exhibited at Provenance's upcoming Fall Show in Boston. Her private commissions include paintings for several of the individuals previously mentioned. Rachel recently moved her studio from Flagship Wharf in Boston to New York City.
